Hyssop

Hyssop. (Hebrew, ezob). The ezob was used for sprinkling, in some of the sacrifices and purifications of the Jews. In consequence of its detergent qualities, or from its being associated with the purificatory services, the psalmist makes use of the expression, "Purge me with ezob." Psa_51:7. It is described in 1Ki_4:33 as growing on or near walls.

(Besides being thus fit for sprinkling, having cleansing properties and growing on walls, the true hyssop should be a plant common to Egypt, Sinai and Palestine, and capable of producing a stick three or four feet long since, on a stalk of hyssop, the sponge of vinegar was held up to Christ on the cross. Joh_19:29.

It is impossible to precisely identify the plant because the name was given not to a particular plant, but to a family of plants associated together by Hyssop qualities easily noticed, rather than by close botanical affinities. Different species of the family may have been used at different times. The hyssop of the Bible is probably one (or all) of three plants: --

1. The common hyssop is "a shrub with low, bushy stalks 1 1/2 feet high, small pear shaped, close-setting opposite leaves on all the stalks and branches terminated by erect whorled spikes of flowers of different colors in the varieties. It is a hardy plant, with an aromatic smell and a warm, pungent taste; a native of the south of Europe and the East." -- Editor).

2. Bochart decides in favor of marjoram, or some plant like it, and to this conclusion, it must be admitted, all ancient tradition points. (This is the Origanum maru, the z'atar of the Arabs. The French consul at Sidon, exhibited to Dr. Thomson ("The Land and the Book," i. 161), a specimen of this "having the fragrance of thyme, with a hot, pungent taste, and long slender stems." Dr. Post of Beirut, in the American edition of Smith's large Dictionary, favors this view. -- Editor).

3. But Dr.Royle, after a careful investigation of the subject, arrives at the conclusion that the hyssop is no other than the caperplant, or Capparis spinosa of Linnaeus. The Arabic name of this plant, asuf, by which it is sometimes, though not commonly, described, bears considerable resemblance to the Hebrew. "It is a bright-green creeper, which climbs from the fissures of the rocks, is supposed to possess cleansing properties, and is capable of yielding a stick to which a sponge might be attached." -- Stanky, "Sinai and Palestine," 23. -- It produces a fruit the size of a walnut, called the mountain pepper.

Exodus 12:22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.

Leviticus 14:49 And he shall take to cleanse the house two birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop: 50 And he shall kill the one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water: 51 And he shall take the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the scarlet, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird, and in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times: 52 And he shall cleanse the house with the blood of the bird, and with the running water, and with the living bird, and with the cedar wood, and with the hyssop, and with the scarlet: 53 But he shall let go the living bird out of the city into the open fields, and make an atonement for the house: and it shall be clean.

Psalm 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

In the scriptures above we see how “hyssop” was used in the purification process for removal of sin.  During the original Passover, hyssop was used to sprinkle the blood of the sacrificial lamb of the doorposts and door of the houses of the children of Israel so that the death angel would by-pass that house.  The Smith Bible Dictionary also says “hyssop” has certain detergent properties.  Everything done under the Priesthood of Moses and Aaron was an allegory pointing to something with a higher spiritual application.  Now let us see how this relates to the REAL DEAL.

HIS SOP

John 13:21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. 27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly. 28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.

Here we see Jesus announcing, “One of you shall betray me”.  It is “he to whom I will give the SOP”.  Then Jesus gave HIS-SOP to Judas Iscariot.  To cleanse the world and all humanity of sin and trespasses, THE LAMB necessarily had to be slain.  The action of Judas Iscariot was PLANNED BY THE FATHER.  Jesus was caught by the Romans and the Jews as planned, and HIS BLOOD was spilled for remission of all sin.  What Moses had the Israelites do during the original Passover in Egypt signified the work of Jesus which was to happen in the future.  HYSSOP was used to sprinkle the blood on the doorposts and the doors of each Hebrew house.  This act points to the work that Judas Iscariot was chosen by Father to perform.  The disciples had no idea what God and Jesus were doing and they wondered about it.  It is by the spilling of the blood of Jesus Christ that Father REMOVED SIN CHARGES FROM APPLYING TO MANKIND IN ALL GENERATIONS OF HUMANITY IN A ONE-TIME ACT!  This ACT has UNIVERSAL APPLICATION including past, present and future acts of sin!  This means ALL HUMAN ACTS OF SIN from the days of Adam and Eve to the last human to commit an act of sin in the END OF TIME do not count against mankind because of JESUS’ BLOOD LOSS.  Father has already purged them and “will remember them no more”.  It is devils, men, and human preachers in churches, who continue to ACCUSE MEN OF SINS that do not count (not recorded) with the Supreme Judge and the Heavenly Court.  ALL SINS have been PRE-PURGED AND ERASED before devils get men to do anything.  GOD discounts sin charges against men by devils and by men.  Prayers of men confessing to acts of trespass that devils made them do are IGNORED because Father has given ALL MEN THE FREE GIFT OF RIGHTOUSNESS, and it abides with each human being no matter what devils make them do.

Psalm 40:6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, 8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

All human SINS WERE ERASED in Isaiah’s days BEFORE JESUS WAS BORN TO MARY!  And when Father says “Return unto me” all stars STAND UP TOGETHER WHEN HE CALLS THEM BY THEIR NAMES.

One Jesus was SET ON GOD’ THRONE, Father gave him the job of calling the Family Roll!  Father PAID JESUS for dying on that cross as His ATONEMENT LAMB for the redemption of all his human brothers and sisters, who are God's own sons and daughters.  Father gave him every child to be born on earth in all generations as Jesus' own personal heritage and reward.  All Jesus has to do to claim his PAY is to READ THE NAMES he finds on the Family Roll (Book of Life).  Dramatic events happen on earth when Jesus calls out those names.  Men having those names dwelling in flesh and blood lose their flesh bodies and RISE TO STAND BEFORE FATHER AND JESUS at the Throne.  No power on earth or in hell can stop, modify, or prevent Jesus from collecting them all and "losing nothing".  No matter what those persons with those names may be doing on earth, they will hear their name and IMMEDIATELY FOLLOW HIM where he is.

Romans 14:7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. 8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
